This is yet another overly ambitious film from Christopher Nolan. The acting is solid, and McConaughey seems perfectly suited to his part. The visuals are quite appealing, however, the movie falls into the same traps as Nolan’s earlier works. I'm not sure if these are flaws or simply what Nolan enthusiasts appreciate most... * The narrative initially suggests a profoundly complex storyline, but ultimately it contains fundamental errors and absurdities that render it illogical. * There’s an overarching sense that every scene needs to feel monumental; the conversations are weighty, serious, and supposedly intelligent, yet at times the protagonist, who is presented as a skilled engineer and pilot, acts in a remarkably foolish manner. * To maintain this constant feeling of importance, Nolan employs a pounding and pervasive musical score. Given its length—nearly three hours—it becomes quite wearing. Overall, the movie is acceptable, but you’d have to be a dedicated Nolan fan to consider it truly exceptional.
