Having already lived through "Divergent," this group finds themselves constantly evading “Janine” (Kate Winslet), which creates some dangerous situations for “Tris” (Shailene Woodley) and her attractive companions—brother “Caleb” (Ansel Elgort) and boyfriend “Four” (Theo James). I can’t imagine wanting to be on the run with better-looking people as they make their way through the ruins of Chicago, searching for supporters who can help them stop the "Erudite" faction's plans for global domination. Complicating matters further, the threatening presence of “Eric” (Jai Courtney) is heading up those trying to capture them, so it appears that conflict is inevitable. Except, truthfully, it isn’t. The narrative feels formulaic and disappointing, but it’s made bearable by a decent amount of attractive actors and some well-staged, computer-generated action sequences that at least maintain the momentum through what felt like an extended two hours. There's a bit of deceptive behavior from "Peter" (Miles Teller) to introduce some tension, although that doesn't really stand out when considered alongside the rest of this lackluster adaptation of novels that were arguably better left to one’s own imagination than Robert Schwentke has presented here. It provides simple entertainment for watching while doing chores like ironing or writing a paper on nuclear physics—it isn’t truly worth seeking out on its own, though.
