**A deeply disappointing and underwhelming film.** What occurs when a studio like Disney decides to create a sequel to a movie that performed financially well, even though critics heavily criticized it and it had noticeable shortcomings? It’s possible for the production to learn from past errors and improve… but frequently, the final product ends up being even more nonsensical and disrespectful to the original than the first attempt. And that's exactly what transpired here! Inspector Gadget was a wonderful cartoon; I recall watching it briefly on Portuguese television when I was younger. While my memory of it isn’t extensive, it remained one of the cartoons I was most eager to see. The 1999 live-action adaptation didn't capture its essence... though it wasn’t necessarily terrible in itself. It possessed clear flaws, particularly concerning the writing and humor. This film, released years later, demonstrates that these issues weren't taken seriously, and Disney seemed primarily interested in profiting from fans of the original cartoon. I have seen some specialized critics highlight certain aspects to support their view that this film is more faithful to the source material. However, I must disagree. Arguing this simply because the main villain has a cat again and his face isn’t shown overlooks everything else. The original cartoon was enjoyable, entertaining, and geared towards children and young people… this movie disregards all of those qualities. A shopping trip to a crowded mall two days before Christmas Eve could be more fun and exciting than this film, and anyone who has experienced that knows how stressful it can be. The film lacks humor, features dreadful dialogue, and suffers from a poor script. Essentially, Gadget is portrayed as an outdated and malfunctioning relic for much of the movie's duration, and he develops feelings for a robot devoid of any human qualities. This robot would represent the "new generation" of police officers meant to replace him, ultimately leading the pursuit after Claw escapes from prison. The cast doesn’t warrant extensive praise. The capable Broderick is replaced by an awkward and tiresome French Stewart. His performance feels amateurish and fails to do the character justice. Elaine Hendrix has very little screen time. Caitlin Wachs shares this problem, though she performs effectively within her limited role. Tony Martin portrayed Claw, and while some appreciate the changes to the character, I believe he’s become excessively cartoonish here. Disney clearly invested minimal resources in the film; the substandard visual effects and CGI are a clear indication of their cost-cutting measures. The movie's rapid pace seems intended to prevent audiences from critically evaluating what they're seeing, but it didn't succeed for me because I felt rushed throughout the viewing experience. The sets and locations are adequate, but the soundtrack is disappointing.
