"Inside Out 2" manages a successful continuation of the first film, presenting a touching and thoughtful look at how the mind works. Coming from director Pete Docter and Pixar Animation Studios, this new chapter examines emotions with even greater detail, resulting in a movie that’s both engaging to think about and emotionally satisfying. The story picks up with Riley as she enters her teenage years and deals with all the challenges that come along with it. Seeing Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust again is a pleasure, and the introduction of new emotional characters helps show how Riley’s inner life becomes more complicated. The voice acting for each emotion is excellent, adding believability and richness to their personalities. Amy Poehler as Joy and Phyllis Smith as Sadness are standouts, with their relationship changing in unexpected and affecting ways.
