I had mixed feelings when I learned they were making a sequel to Inside Out; the first one is such an exceptional movie, truly among Pixar's best, combining humor, feeling, and a deep understanding of how people think. The sequel introduces Anxiety, a really well-developed character voiced by Maya Hawke. Hawke’s performance gives her depth and makes Anxiety someone audiences can connect with and feel for. The addition of this character adds layers to the story that have a real impact. Seeing how Anxiety interacts with Joy, who Amy Poehler plays just as wonderfully as before, shows what it's like growing up. Poehler continues to be at the center of the film’s appeal. The movie's emotional core is still incredibly strong. As a dad, I was really moved by the first film because it helped me understand and accept my kids' feelings. This one turns the focus inward, looking at what it feels like emotionally to go through adolescence and early adulthood. Riley, our main character, is growing up, and bringing in more complicated emotions reflects that change. The movie does a fantastic job of showing how awkward and uncomfortable this time can be, making it something both younger viewers and adults can relate to. Some scenes are hard to watch because they’re so recognizable—we've all felt anxious and doubted ourselves, and seeing those moments portrayed so honestly on screen is both unsettling and relieving. Amy Poehler’s portrayal of Joy remains a highlight, and Maya Hawke’s Anxiety is a thoughtfully created character who changes throughout the film. By the time it ends, Anxiety isn’t just causing problems; she helps with growth and understanding. This development makes the story more than just something for kids—it's a thoughtful look at how we grow emotionally. Inside Out 2 is a summer movie that stands out as one of the best family films available. It balances humor and emotion with a storyline that appeals to both children and adults. Pixar has once again created a film that’s not only entertaining but also educational, reminding us about the importance of understanding and accepting all our emotions. If you loved the first film, this sequel is definitely worth seeing; it captures the same feeling while exploring new emotional ground. If you appreciated the original for its insightful look at feelings, you'll find Inside Out 2 a worthwhile continuation of Riley’s story.
