This film functions well within the heist genre. Spike Lee and Denzel Washington’s portrayal of "Det. Frazier" maintains a steady level of tension, and while there aren't many, the plot developments are effective in creating suspense. Jodie Foster and Christopher Plummer have limited screen time, but their involvement is significant to a darker and more engaging secondary storyline—even with Clive Owen’s presence as “Russell,” whose character proves essential to building a feeling of danger and carefully orchestrated scheming. The movie briefly explores elements of societal and religious beliefs, though it doesn't represent Lee's most overtly political work; these aspects combine to create an enjoyable narrative with multiple levels. It makes for worthwhile viewing.
