Joe Dante directed Innerspace, which Jeffrey Boam and Chip Proser wrote. The film features Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, Meg Ryan, and Kevin McCarthy; Jerry Goldsmith composed the music, and Andrew Laszlo was in charge of cinematography. The story centers on a man who’s been shrunk down as part of an experiment and accidentally ends up inside another person. That basic idea is pretty wild, but it's clear that everyone involved understood this and set out to create something fun, combining excitement with traditional good-versus-evil elements. The plot revolves around a ticking clock as the miniaturized Tuck Pendleton (Quaid) struggles from within Jack Putter’s (Short) body. He needs to keep Jack safe from criminals who want the secrets of how he was made so small, all while racing against time before he runs out of air or is attacked by Jack's immune system. Dante puts together some truly impressive sequences, and the depiction of the inside of a human body is cleverly done. The actors are all excellent, with the main pairing of Quaid and Short being particularly enjoyable, providing plenty of laughs and moments of danger. Dante and his team skillfully manage both storylines – the conflict happening inside Jack's body alongside what’s going on in the outside world. This is a delightful bit of science fiction entertainment; it seems like Dante had a great time using special effects to reimagine Fantastic Voyage as an action-comedy adventure. The music is also really good! 8/10
