It felt like a long wait for this third installment when put next to the earlier films, and I was anticipating 'The Lost Symbol' appearing sooner. It’s unclear why they bypassed adapting that book, though perhaps it proved problematic in production or simply didn't translate well to film. This one wasn't as strong as its predecessors. Ron Howard directed again, and Tom Hanks is back as professor Robert Langdon. The movie runs for two hours but moves very quickly with constant action sequences. The story continues the pattern of battling those who believe in old writings that predict future human problems—problems we’re now facing. After waking up with amnesia, professor Langdon escapes an assassin with the assistance of a young woman, and they then try to figure out why someone wants them dead and who is responsible. It's not a particularly compelling narrative, but it makes for an enjoyable film, especially if you appreciate action, adventure, and suspense. The cast is good, including Hanks and Jones, and the supporting actors are fine too. As usual, the setting is in Europe, specifically Venice and surrounding areas. There are some interesting hidden locations; the scenery is impressive. Given that this entry wasn't well-received, I’m uncertain whether the next book, 'Origin,' will even be produced. Before that happens, though, I would anticipate ‘The Lost Symbol’ being adapted if they intend to keep making these movies. It isn't a film I'd enthusiastically suggest, but it's acceptable for a single viewing. _6/10_
