The film establishes two clear ideas: existence is uncertain and college experiences were different back in the 1950s. Adapted from its namesake book, it marks the debut of a producer’s venture into directing. It's a straightforward drama centered on a Jewish American student navigating his way through a small Ohio college. The movie explores his social interactions, a complicated romantic relationship with a girl facing her own issues, conflicts with the school's dean, and other aspects of his life. It turned out to be more impressive than I initially expected. Some parts of the storytelling were unclear at first, but the details emerge gradually, requiring some effort to piece together. The editing felt somewhat disorienting, especially when it came to distinguishing between different time periods. However, everything becomes clear by the end, or so it seems. The plot twist was decent, quite good actually, and completely changed how you view the whole story. Logan Lerman continues to improve with each new role he takes on, and Sarah Gadon is becoming increasingly captivating as well. The film ultimately returns to its initial themes, focusing on life's lessons—how a seemingly minor error can have lasting consequences, but also how significant mistakes can safeguard cherished memories even as life goes on. It’s a serious subject handled with consideration. Some viewers will consider it essential viewing, and it’s certainly worth seeing for everyone. _7/10_
