It’s a film I enjoyed and would happily see again, and I feel comfortable suggesting it to others. The premise involves Will Smith battling extraterrestrial invaders while Jeff Goldblum portrays a character who is almost excessively intelligent. While the alien elements and narrative are well-executed, there are also numerous scenes designed to emphasize the humanity at stake, ensuring viewers understand what the Earth’s defenders are fighting for. I imagine an edited version could trim it down to roughly 45 to 60 minutes of straight action and discovery, but those extra moments aren't really detrimental to the experience. If you appreciate alien invasion or apocalyptic films, this one deserves a spot on your viewing list.
