A year has passed since Dr. Sam Cordell relocated to the quiet New England community of Galen along with his teenage daughter, but their tranquility is disrupted by several violent assaults. The doctor, a police officer he knows, and a journalist find themselves struggling to determine who—or what—is accountable, while a local teenager experiencing disturbing dreams that seem connected to the crimes becomes a person of interest. The disappointing aspect is that my brief description provides greater understanding than the movie itself does. Riddled with inconsistencies in the storyline, featuring an unnecessary exploration of Dr. Cordell’s history, and displaying careless production values, what had potential to be a compelling combination of 1970s films about Satanism and 1980s slasher movies ultimately fails to live up to that promise and concludes without making much of an impact. I rate it a 4/10.
