What unfolds isn't really a documentary film; rather, it assembles video accounts from various sources. While there may not be one definitive photograph to settle the matter, the accumulation of real-time footage—from security cameras and the body-worn devices of police officers present during the incident—leaves little room for questioning what occurred to “Snoop” while he was walking down the street. Considering I’m from a place where it's hardly permissible for law enforcement to carry weapons, much less an ordinary person going about their day, this felt like a disheartening reflection of a culture where carrying firearms is commonplace and police officers operate with a shoot-first approach that seems accepted as standard practice. The events depicted are impossible to defend, but they simply underscore my belief that greater gun availability inevitably leads to increased firearm use. It’s also clear to me that newly recruited police officers shouldn't be authorized to carry live ammunition in urban areas—whether those areas are Chicago or elsewhere. Initially, the sheer volume of information can feel overwhelming, but a second viewing, where each camera feed is examined separately, reveals a tragedy with many layers. The loss extends beyond just one person’s life; it represents a further erosion of faith in a system that has always had shortcomings, but which are now painfully apparent.
