It’s familiar territory for horror fans, but still entertaining. Coming from the director of 'San Andreas', this film arrived after a couple of years of waiting; the cause for the delay remains unclear. However, it turned out to be considerably better than I anticipated. The cast was quite good, especially considering the limited budget, and the production values were impressive. Even the script held up well. Some refinements would have been welcome, but ultimately it's a solid film with strong performances across the board. The story centers on a man who has the ability to enter the minds of those overtaken by malevolent spirits. As is typical in horror movies, he finds himself locked in a personal conflict with one particular entity. After a lengthy search, he discovers that a young boy is possessed by the same spirit, prompting him to seek retribution for past experiences. While dedicated horror enthusiasts might dismiss it as unremarkable, I think most viewers will find something to enjoy. There are several effective scenes, and the film’s key moments were skillfully handled. Aaron Eckhart delivers an unexpected performance, particularly in his leading role, making it worth checking out. _6½/10_
