I went into *In Bruges* hoping to like it, but ultimately found myself disappointed. The combination of Martin McDonagh’s writing with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson seemed promising (as demonstrated by their later collaboration in *The Banshees of Inisherin*), yet I didn't find much enjoyment in this film. There are moments where the movie shows potential, and a few scenes where I could have possibly connected with it. The last half hour or so is noticeably stronger, but what comes before really holds it back, in my view. The humor didn’t land for me; very few of the jokes were actually funny. Despite this, Farrell and Gleeson do make a good team together, though their partnership shines much more brightly in that 2022 film. Gleeson is the stronger performer here; I found Farrell's character to be somewhat grating. Ralph Fiennes delivers an acceptable performance, although his distracting accent was a drawback. The cast also includes two actors who have appeared in *The Walking Dead* franchise – from different spin-off series, which is interesting. Clémence Poésy, who’s excellent in *Daryl Dixon*, and Željko Ivanek of *Dead City*. I'm a fan of *The Walking Dead*. I appreciate McDonagh’s other films like *The Banshees of Inisherin* and particularly *Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri*. So it was inevitable that one would fall short; hopefully I’ll enjoy 2012’s *Seven Psychopaths*.
