The film had potential that wasn’t fully realized because Arthur Lubin chose Brian Donlevy for the main part, and he didn't bring much energy to the role of "Walt Williams," who is portrayed as a prosperous man targeted by a deceptive scheme involving his wife, "Irene" (Helen Walker), and her paramour, "Jim" (Tony Barrett). After an error leads to the death of someone else, "Walt" retreats to a quiet Idaho community where he finds work with a local garage owner needing a skilled mechanic. Meanwhile, detective "Quincy" (Charles Coburn) has assembled considerable evidence against the wife, and as her trial approaches, "Walt's" new romantic interest, "Marsha" (Ella Raines), convinces him to re-enter society and confront legal complications. The plot gets somewhat tangled, but the final fifteen minutes are fairly captivating, even if they stretch believability a bit. It’s still worth seeing, primarily because of the beautiful cars featured.
