It's common knowledge that _Immortals_ borrows heavily from _300_, and yes, it definitely does. However, I don’t think anyone has really pointed out how much it resembles the _God of War_ game series. I generally enjoy films set in historical mythology, but what bothers me about _Immortals_ isn't its setting or genre; instead, it seems like a product driven by questionable intentions. The first _300_ movie was made to bring the comic book to life, whereas _Immortals_ appears to exist solely because _300_ proved profitable. I realize that money is always a factor in studio films, but someone involved needs to have more than just financial goals for their project. It doesn't seem like anyone did with this one. I’m okay with _Immortals_ trying to replicate the style of _300_. If enough people copy an idea over time, it becomes a genre. My problem is that it seems to exist only to imitate _300_, and it does so in a significantly less successful way. There are maybe two fight scenes that extend beyond thirty seconds, even when you factor in the slow-motion effects, and they aren't as well-shot as those in _300_. It isn’t nearly as entertaining, it doesn't excel in any technical aspect, and it's often difficult to follow what's happening. Even the acting, which wasn’t particularly strong in _300_, is worse here. Occasionally, I thought I saw hints of a more substantial concept trying to emerge, but it never materialized. _Final rating:★★ - It had elements that appealed to me, but ultimately, it didn't work out well._
