IF proved to be an unexpectedly wonderful film, going beyond what I thought it would be. The way the 3D animation is mixed with live action really sparks imagination and contributes to a story that's both deep and very touching. It handles some delicate subjects in a sincere and thoughtful way, while also making a point about holding onto your inner child. Cailey Fleming gives what feels like the strongest performance by a young actor this year; it adds even more feeling to an already emotional film, similar to how Michael Giacchino’s music is beautiful. John Krasinski shows again that he's naturally gifted at directing, producing something that families will likely appreciate and be moved by together. It’s a movie that I suspect people won’t soon forget. Rating: A-
