It’s hard to say whether this film is intentionally silly but also clever, or simply clever in its silliness. The movie has gained a devoted following online, with discussions on platforms like Reddit centered around its observations about society. I went into it expecting something insightful that would anticipate the current cultural climate and perhaps signal the decline of thoughtful consideration. Although I was initially drawn in by the concept of a civilization gradually losing intelligence, I believe the film spent too much time establishing this idea early on. As it continued, the movie showed itself to be a source of memorable lines but ultimately shallow, employing the very clichés it seemed to want to mock. There were some amusing scenes—like the vehicles shaped like oversized phalluses and people being struck in the groin—that I felt connected to contemporary events. The contamination of crops with Brawndo brought to mind several corporate incidents where baby formula or drinking water was swapped out for a company’s manufactured product, which ultimately harmed consumers. These instances seemed to offer a way to satirize the situation that was easy to grasp. However, I believe these observations were diminished by the low quality of the jokes, which appeared to be mocking society's decline while simultaneously using similar humor for simple amusement. Apart from its initial setup and some catchy quotes ("It’s what the plants crave!"), I ultimately think the juvenile comedy dominates any deeper sense of commentary or exploration that the movie attempts to provide.
