It seemed like things were going okay with the straightforward story of various creatures attempting to connect and endure a severe frost. However, now “Scrat” – who has become quite irritating – is pursuing his acorn into outer space. It would have been nice if he’d remained lost out there, but instead, he triggers a global crisis by messing with an old alien spacecraft and sending asteroids toward Earth. Apparently, they didn't want to see Sean Connery handle this situation, so he has to come up with a basic solution alongside Ellie, Manny, Sid, Diego, and some crystals that might prevent total destruction from space. Will they succeed? Unfortunately, the film doesn’t really take off, and even though the familiar characters are present, the writing lacks the wit and enjoyment of earlier, more engaging conversations; it feels rather worn out. The entire idea comes across as a calculated marketing ploy that has little to do with the original heroes from 2002. I'm not sure kids will find much to appreciate either, but at least it’s an easy film to put on while you take a nap.
