The difficulty this time around lies in locating them. The film was given to two new directors, and the outcome isn't great. This feels like the most basic installment of the 'Ice Age' movies. The series is genuinely struggling for the first time. While it did reasonably well financially, that’s not as strong a performance compared to earlier films. It felt brief or perhaps should have been shorter. From the adventures to where they take place, everything seems smaller in this sequel. Except Scrat, who embarks on an extended trip into outer space. The story proceeds much like it always has, but this time Manny and his group aren't traveling; instead, a problem finds them, and they must discover a way out. Buck reappears from below ground at just the right moment and joins forces with his friends to deal with what’s happening. Also, Peaches is getting married, and all the fun adventures—both on Earth and throughout the solar system—point toward one thing. Space-themed stories are popular in movies these days, and this series has consistently tried to expand its scope for new sequels, so this time it was bigger than ever before. I doubt they can go much further conceptually. Scrat, who’s been a key part of the franchise, is seen here wearing a spacesuit. Like with those characters from *Despicable Me* and *Happy Feet*, I'd like to see a movie just about Scrat. But that probably won’t occur, at least not soon, since their individual films didn't do as well as hoped for. Whether you're a fan of the 'Ice Age' movies or not, you’ll likely be somewhat let down. It has now surpassed the ‘Shrek’ series with this fifth film, and they are already planning a sixth one. It's not terrible; it's simply an average movie that you should watch if you want to keep up with the story going forward. Otherwise, it can easily be skipped. _5.5/10_
