Frances Dee plays the part of "Betsy Connell," a nurse who takes a job traveling to a Caribbean island to look after the comatose wife of a landowner. While providing care for the woman, she finds herself developing feelings for the husband, "Paul Holland," played by Tom Conway. Betsy feels compelled to assist her patient and believes that recovery will require engaging with the local population and their spiritual practices—specifically voodoo.
