Josh Lobo’s “I Trapped the Devil” marks his first time directing, and unfortunately, there's a lot to dislike about it. The movie primarily centers on just three people: 'Steve' (Scott Poythress), 'Matt' (AJ Bowen), and 'Karen' (Susan Burke). Even though the actors themselves weren’t awful, their performances came across as uninspired and dull. The script is where things really fall apart. Essentially, this film consists of three individuals conversing with a door. That’s it. I understand what Lobo was aiming for – whether something sinister truly exists behind that barrier, or if one of the brothers is experiencing a mental breakdown fueled by paranoia. It's hard to buy into either possibility. The core issue is that this material simply isn’t substantial enough for a full-length movie. Perhaps it could have been effective as a shorter piece, but enduring 82 minutes while watching a door repeatedly and occasionally witnessing some splatter of blood doesn’t make for an enjoyable viewing experience. If you appreciated "Terror Talk," you might find something to like here; otherwise, I'm struggling to imagine who else would be interested in this.
