It's hard to pinpoint exactly what went wrong with _I See You_, whether it was the performances, its shifting identity as a film, or Helen Hunt’s appearance, but the result is an uneven experience. If you haven't encountered this one yet, maybe that’s fortunate. Here's what it’s supposedly about: Following the disappearance of a young boy, detective Greg Harper finds himself juggling the demands of his job with problems at home involving his wife, Jackie. Their marriage is already under stress because of an affair, which further destabilizes her sense of reality. Then, something sinister appears in their house and threatens their son, Connor, revealing a disturbing truth about evil within the Harper family. There’s no one to root for in this film; every character has some serious flaws. Helen Hunt doesn't make much of an impression, the other members of the family are forgettable, and certain characters introduced later were so poorly written that they unintentionally brought on laughter – a reaction completely inappropriate for what is supposed to be a scary movie. The film gets sidetracked with an unnecessary subplot involving the father, which detracts from its potential. It’s disappointing because the core idea is promising, but it could have been significantly improved with better actors who could have delivered more convincing performances, a more impactful musical score to build suspense, and a greater dedication to maintaining focus on the central narrative. Ultimately, this feels like something you'd watch casually one Friday night after having a few drinks.
