It seems like there's this recurring theme—a notion that every compelling and distinctive person carries some kind of internal hurt and just wants to appear ordinary once they’ve resolved it, as seen in films such as The Breakfast Club, The Faculty, and This Must Be The Place. The movie had potential but would have benefited from more uncertainty and less effort to force creative characters into conformity. I was disappointed when the main female character lost her bunny ears. While the creature designs were interesting, they felt somewhat unnecessary given that it ultimately became an emotional story rather than a film about monsters. The visual effects also weren’t integrated smoothly enough to appear convincing or seamless. Overall, it wasn't really worth watching, even though the monster itself was intriguing. It leaned too heavily into indie sensibilities and lacked other elements. If you want a more satisfying emotional drama featuring literal monsters representing metaphorical issues, Colossal is a much stronger choice.
