There-Can-Be-Only-One on I Can Only Imagine

9/10 · Mar 18, 2018

It’s a really nice film. 😊 To be frank, I didn’t anticipate being that impressed, but I wanted to help MercyMe, and I generally try to show my appreciation whenever a movie theater shows something wholesome like this. I was genuinely surprised by the quality of the production. It had the feel of a major motion picture—though I have no idea what the actual budget was—and it avoided that artificiality you often see in Christian films. The casting was remarkably good, and I especially appreciated both actors who portrayed Bart: Brody Rose as the younger Bart, and J Michael Finley as the teenage/young adult version. Trace Adkins was also fantastic as Brickell. I brought a friend who isn't religious to see it because he likes MercyMe and has enjoyed hearing Bart’s stories at concerts I’ve taken him to, and he liked the movie too. He even got emotional—and he’s not usually someone who shows his feelings! I cried as well, though; I tend to be more sentimental. 😉 I would absolutely suggest seeing it. Going to the movies isn't something I do often, and I usually only go for very specific occasions. Seeing a Christian film shown in mainstream theaters feels like one of those special moments, and if you’d like to see this happen more frequently, I hope you’ll consider going to support it.
