The movie felt dull, though that seems to reflect reality itself. It’s fortunate the authorities intervened when they did; otherwise, Elizabeth might have remained in that situation indefinitely. The film leaves no doubt: pursue scientific understanding and disregard religious dogma. It functions as a type of indoctrination, something our nation safeguards. That's wrong. Those who held her captive acted reprehensibly, and the faith imposed on her by her parents offered her no benefit whatsoever. Elizabeth can attempt to justify her experiences however she chooses; it’s her narrative... but believing that rainfall or a glass of water constituted “miracles” strikes me as immature. A supernatural figure in the heavens didn't rescue her—the police did. And despite my relief at her release, she contributed very little to it herself. Passivity and fear don't equate to bravery.
