This movie held my attention completely. I wouldn’t go so far as to call ‘I Am Dina’ remarkable, but I found myself appreciating the overall feel of the film from start to finish—nearly two hours felt like time well invested. Maria Bonnevie delivers an outstanding central performance; she really seems to be the driving force of this 2002 production. That being said, the acting is good all around, with other performers also making worthwhile contributions. Bjørn Floberg and Gérard Depardieu were both impressive to me, as were Mads Mikkelsen and Christopher Eccleston—I was a bit taken aback by the latter’s appearance, though he's completely dependable throughout... aside from a questionable Russian accent. It has to be said, it’s a very capable ensemble. It’s certainly dramatic, but I mean that as a compliment. A considerable amount occurs, yet everything feels connected and purposeful. Ultimately, I would gladly watch this again; it's definitely worth seeing.
