I watched this movie and initially figured it was simply a redo of "The Mummy" (1999). “Danny” (Ben Affleck) and “Diana” (Alice Braga) are in a rush to locate his daughter, who seems to have been taken by “Dellrayne” (William Fichtner). Dellrayne has the ability to influence people’s thoughts, similar to "Imhotep," allowing him to control those around him, including turning friends and even criminal organizations into an angry mob. What unfolds is a rather disappointing storyline that reveals there are individuals among us called “hypnotics.” These beings, with different levels of power, can affect the behavior of people nearby (sometimes seemingly with energy weapons) and it looks like his daughter might become something akin to a superhuman for them. "Danny" isn't sure who he can believe or what’s truly happening; all he knows is that he has to keep his child out of their grasp. This moves us, at this point I was happy to be taken along, into the third part of the story which completely destroys any sense of freshness as our brave protagonist stays just ahead of an army of armed holiday resort staff. The special effects are acceptable, but beyond that, it feels uninspired and the plot attempts to become overly intricate for its own benefit. It’ll probably be alright on television during Christmas, but that's about all I can say.
