This film seems designed to emulate something like "Inception," and your feelings about that earlier picture likely suggest how you’ll feel about this one. The story centers on a detective whose child was taken years prior. He gets involved in an investigation of a series of robberies carried out by someone with hypnotic abilities, and it doesn't take long to realize his missing daughter might be connected to the crimes. Despite some inherent protection against mental influence, the layers of deception are so numerous that discerning truth from illusion proves difficult. The screenwriters did well constructing a narrative full of unexpected turns; guessing what will happen next is genuinely challenging. The performances were solid, but I felt the plot became overly convoluted, to the point where much of what we see ultimately feels irrelevant. It's an enjoyable film overall, though I doubt it’ll become one of those movies that sticks with people for a long time.
