The storyline in Hustle follows a familiar pattern often seen in movies about rising athletes, yet this doesn’t stop it from being entertaining. It functions similarly to Rocky, with Adam Sandler taking on the role of the mentor figure and Juancho Hernangomez as the protagonist. Considering it was released directly onto Netflix, Hustle managed to surpass what many would have predicted. There were moments when the film evoked genuine emotion, and Sandler delivered a performance that felt honest and deeply felt, which improved the overall quality. Because much of the supporting cast consisted of actual basketball players, the on-court action was very well done, but it seemed they weren't pushed to expand their acting abilities beyond what’s expected. At times this held back how complex the story could become, and certain aspects of the plot felt commonplace. Nevertheless, Hustle proves to be a worthwhile sports movie that basketball enthusiasts will likely appreciate.
