I went in anticipating just another revenge story—Statham is known for action, after all—and ended up pleasantly surprised. The film possesses an unexpected level of substance and quality. It features character development, strong performances, and a plot that’s more layered than you might assume. While it's not a profound psychological study, it rises well above the standard action movie. Initially, the narrative seems straightforward: a former soldier descends into drug addiction and homelessness before unexpectedly finding an opportunity to escape his circumstances—and entering ethically ambiguous territory, very dark territory at that. A romantic element exists within the story as well, and I believe it’s handled effectively; we're presented with two intricate characters each battling their own internal struggles and navigating difficult lives. For me, the most captivating sequence involved observing two individuals patiently waiting and watching others. Fortunately, it isn't solely focused on artistic or emotional elements; there’s action too—well-executed and reliably delivered by Statham and his team. There's even a touch of humor sprinkled in. Violence doesn’t drive the narrative; it simply serves as an element within this dark and gritty story. I believe seeing this movie was time well spent, and it left a lasting impression that prompted me to write this review. I recommend it.
