Dan_Tebasco on House Party 2

I’m in the small number of people who thought this installment was better than the initial one. However, that’s not saying a whole lot since I didn’t care for the first film very much. Kamron—the role played by the white actor portraying Jamal—was a welcome inclusion; he'd been part of an obscure musical group called YOUNG BLACK TEENAGERS. The members of this group were, in fact, not African American, but they genuinely felt that they identified as black internally, mirroring his character’s persona within the movie itself. Queen Latifah also contributes positively to the film, though her storyline becomes confusing when the pajama party is introduced. She initially spends considerable time discussing the importance of uplifting Black women, only to later seem comfortable with the idea of having them disrobe for a male-dominated event. The pajama party felt somewhat artificial too, as if it was hastily added in after they realized they needed some kind of celebratory gathering to make it feel like a proper follow-up to House Party. Martin Lawrence is usually someone I find hilarious, but I’m not amused by his performance here; perhaps it's because his character comes across as excessively unpleasant.
