This film features Andy Samberg as a character reminiscent of Evel Knievel, and it's an enjoyable picture. The story centers on a courageous but awkward moped stunt performer—played by Samberg—who intends to perform his riskiest feat yet, jumping over 15 buses, in order to secure funds for his ailing stepfather (Ian McShane). Isla Fisher, Sissy Spacek, Bill Hader, and Danny McBride are also in the cast. "Hot Rod," released in 2007, is unusual and amusingly silly, but ultimately kindhearted. It’s a relief that there's no crude humor present. Samberg works well in his leading role, and Isla Fisher is consistently delightful to watch. I don’t have much more to add other than this stunt comedy hits the spot when you simply want to switch off your thoughts and enjoy some lighthearted entertainment. The music selection is worth noting, including several songs by Europe and "You're the Voice" by John Farnham. The film has a running time of 1 hour and 28 minutes and was filmed in the Vancouver, British Columbia area. GRADE: B-/B
