The narration was excellent, but the production values were noticeably low—still, it managed to succeed. I was surprised; this isn't on par with Disney or Pixar, or even DreamWorks or Sony, yet it’s a genuinely good film. I’m referring specifically to the story, as the animation felt dated, even considering its release in 2005. I struggled to get into it at first because of the substandard technical aspects. However, once the flashback sequence started, I was completely invested and stopped noticing the production limitations. The strength of the narrative is what ultimately carried the film. Recounting familiar stories can feel stale; the current trend is to explore them from fresh perspectives and add unique elements, much like with 'Maleficent'. Aside from its admirable qualities, though, it feels more like something made for television. Nevertheless, it’s very enjoyable. It's been ten years since this film was released, and I avoided it because someone told me it was terrible—I now regret dismissing it so readily. So please take my word for it; it is a wonderful film, despite the less-than-impressive presentation. It’s fairly brief and definitely worth your 80 minutes. There's a sequel coming, which I intend to watch and review separately under that title. 6/10
