The film drifts along at a fairly steady pace for roughly three-quarters of its length, but I must say that the last thirty minutes are truly exceptional. *Honkytonk Man* didn’t particularly grab my attention initially; the first hour or so felt rather unremarkable, filled with decent but uninspired moments, and even one strange scene. However, the final scenes of this 1982 film definitely stick with you – I really liked how it ended. Clint Eastwood delivers a dependable performance, as he usually does, for most of the movie before showcasing some impressive acting ability. The make-up artists deserve recognition too; they made him look exactly as his character should, which is very effective. Kyle Eastwood isn’t particularly convincing alongside him, but as a young actor, he provides the needed sense of naiveté and so on. I was inclined to give it around a 7/10 until the ending significantly improved my opinion of it.
