The film centers on a young girl experiencing an unusual journey alongside an unanticipated companion. It proved to be an enjoyable motion picture, though it suffered the same fate as 'Turbo,' receiving negative attention from critics and those who defer to their opinions. While DreamWorks Animation isn’t inherently inferior to Disney or Pixar, this movie's narrative and characters didn’t quite measure up. The humor was genuinely funny, and the dialogue was well-written; however, the storytelling felt unoriginal, relying on familiar tropes within the alien storyline. The musical score was a definite highlight, particularly the track 'feel the light,' which was used in promotional materials. The main female character stood out as someone fresh and different, with Rihanna providing the voice acting. I’ve often mentioned that my initial exposure to 3D animation came with 'Ants,' despite 'Toy Story' being considered the first full-length animated feature. This film represents the director’s strongest work since his debut, 'Antz.' As is typical for animated films, it was primarily intended for a younger audience, but I personally found it entertaining. A follow-up doesn’t appear likely at this point, but I would welcome one. If you're looking for something different from the usual princess and fairytale stories, this could be worth checking out. 6.5/10
