I’m placing my trust in nuclear power, not divine intervention. Holocaust 2000 comes from director Alberto De Martino, with a script by Martino and Sergio Donati. The film includes performances by Kirk Douglas, Simon Ward, Agostina Belli, Anthony Quayle, and Virginia McKenna; Ennio Morricone composed the music, and Erico Menczer was in charge of cinematography. Nuclear industrialist Robert Caine (Douglas) disregards cautions that suggest an evil presence is closer than he realizes. Caine and Angel Even setting aside the fact that it’s capitalizing on the popularity of the much better The Omen, the film fails to distinguish itself due to a lack of intelligence or quality. Being aware of what's happening from the start isn't ideal for viewers; it could be acceptable if the story were engaging enough to keep us guessing, but it doesn’t manage that. The storyline proceeds predictably, echoing familiar patterns: unexplained deaths, a pregnancy, numerous foreboding warnings, a recurring cycle of disaster, and an obvious reveal leading up to a disappointing conclusion. The filmmakers attempt to inject some unusual elements into the satanic story, like Douglas appearing nude in a dreamlike sequence, and occasionally those moments are enjoyable because of the film's cheap Italian/English production style. However, it’s missing energy and originality. The actors seem to be working from different versions of the script, though Douglas at least puts in effort to breathe some life into the poor material. It can look good sometimes, and there's a certain amusement derived from its flaws, but its negative reputation is well-deserved, making it hard to suggest this film to anyone except those who collect everything by Kirk Douglas. 5/10
