It seems like everyone just hopes you can appreciate the now instead of worrying about what’s coming. Don Hartman directed Holiday Affair, with Isobel Lennart and John D. Weaver writing the screenplay. The film features Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh, and Wendell Corey. It tells the story of Connie, played by Leigh, a woman who lost her husband and is raising a young son. While she’s tentatively seeing Carl (Corey), someone dependable, she finds herself drawn to Steve (Mitchum), who is more assertive. That's quite enough excitement for one Christmas! Holiday Affair is a charming holiday film that avoids being overly sentimental with its central love triangle plot. The sadness of loss plays a significant role, and the writers created a thoughtful and respectful script supported by talented actors who bring depth to their roles. The seasonal visuals are wonderful, particularly scenes set in Central Park covered in snow. There’s also plenty of humor, especially during a courtroom scene where Harry Morgan appears with his characteristic dry wit. The magic of toys, trees, snow, family, and love all blend together to create a Christmas movie that belongs on everyone's holiday watchlist. It earns an 8/10.
