This film recounts a poignant narrative centered on two young Australian men who develop a loving relationship prior to widespread understanding of AIDS. Ryan Corr and Craig Matthew Scott deliver excellent performances as they portray their joyful connection, including its inevitable challenges, before confronting the reality that one is facing a terminal illness fifteen years later. The story unfolds with considerable emotional impact as both men attempt to come to terms with what’s coming. Guy Pearce and Geoffrey Rush are also present in the cast, while Anthony LaPaglia and Camilla Ah Kin portray John's parents, their sorrow heightened by feelings of responsibility related to his life decisions. Viewers will find it a difficult experience at times—the progression of the illness is depicted intensely—but remains captivating throughout. It’s hard to grasp now that this was an affliction seemingly impossible to avoid, but for those who were young during the seventies and eighties, this was simply how things unfolded. The previous legal limitations concerning partnerships are disturbing, though fortunately, many of these have been addressed over time.
