The story centers on Pickles, a circus elephant who finds himself abandoned in a cage, subsisting solely on canned dog food. Understandably distressed by his situation, he eagerly welcomes the chance of liberation from Leticia, known for rescuing animals from cruel conditions. Pickles’s desire is to return to India, and so begins his journey, stopping briefly in London (where it seems yellow cabs are absent). His former owner, Leaping Lord, isn't willing to part with his prized elephant and hires Hit Pig, a celebrated bounty hunter, to retrieve him. Finding an elephant on a commercial flight is unusual, making the pursuit relatively straightforward; however, their initial encounter suggests that things won’t unfold as planned. Despite following a predictable path, the pair experiences some entertaining adventures around the world, even including zero-gravity acrobatics in space. The animation style is conventional, but the characters are well-developed, with plenty of action and humorous dialogue sprinkled throughout, while also briefly highlighting animal welfare concerns. It’s unlikely to be a film that sticks with you for an extended period, but it offers a pleasant ninety minutes blending elements of Thunderbirds, 007, and Dumbo, which I found perfectly agreeable.
