This is an impressive first effort from Remi Weekes, managing to combine observations about society with traditional horror elements—and thankfully avoiding the zombie trope. The film immerses viewers in the story of a couple who are refugees from Sudan and given lodging in London following a dangerous journey by sea away from their homeland. On top of what they’ve already endured, it seems they might be dealing with a supernatural presence. Films frequently fail when attempting to show what's genuine, what's imagined, past events, or something else entirely. "His House" handles these transitions remarkably well. The ending has a surprise that is genuinely unexpected. It would be great to see Remi Weekes working alongside directors like Ari Aster and Robert Eggers, elevating horror with a fresh kind of intelligence.
