The existence of this movie should have been avoided entirely. While “Highlander 2” was bad and “Highlander 3” attempted to make up for it, this one makes both seem even worse. A television series existed that had nothing to do with the original film, and what this production tries to accomplish is merging elements from both, but it doesn't work at all. The issues begin right away with a script that’s poorly written and lacking in genuinely good or clever ideas. I never felt engaged by the story or that it was worth the time required to watch it. Given how things unfold, it seems the events take place after the original film, which doesn't make sense when you recall that the first movie concludes with Connor’s victory—he was supposed to be the last Immortal. The film is full of plot inconsistencies and moments where logic and consistency simply vanish. The dialogue is weak, unfinished, and irritating. Flashbacks to earlier events don’t always succeed. The cast includes Christopher Lambert one last time, now a more experienced actor; perhaps too mature for the role he's playing. He does his best with the limited material provided. Adrian Paul also delivers a solid performance, considering how poor the script is. Bruce Payne seems overly dramatic and unbelievable, but manages to get through it. The other actors don’t offer anything particularly noteworthy. The film clearly suffered from a very small budget, and that shows in every aspect: it's cheap and rushed. It feels unpleasant and looks even worse than it tastes. It functions as an action movie with sword fights set amongst a collection of abandoned industrial locations. The cinematography, sets, and costumes are what you’d expect, but the visual effects and computer-generated imagery are substandard, amateurish, and frankly unacceptable for a film made in the 2000s. It's a truly disappointing production.
