Following a victory in their high school basketball tournament and enjoying newfound affection, "Troy" (played by Zac Efron) receives an offer for a summer job at a fancy country club. He’s enthusiastic about the prospect but wants “Gabriella” (Vanessa Hudgens) to share the experience with him. After a brief conversation with the manager, it appears that the whole class has been hired—with the exception of "Sharpay" (Ashley Tisdale) and her brother 'Ryan" (Lucas Grabeel), whose parents own the club. Does something feel off? It turns out spoiled "Sharpay" is interested in “Troy”—specifically his singing ability—and she employs manipulation, money, and parental influence to entice him with a scholarship, stylish Italian golf shoes, and excessive praise. His girlfriend and friends begin to see a changed person, suggesting he’s completely under her sway... Will he regain clarity before becoming absorbed into a world of pink poodles? What's notably absent is Alyson Reed's exaggerated character "Ms. Darbus," who has a minimal role, along with a truly memorable song. Despite the abundance of group dance sequences and an overwhelming amount of cheesy moments, the ending feels disappointingly conventional. I believe Lucas Grabeel demonstrates more skill; he’s a better dancer and singer than the lead actor, and by the film's conclusion, I questioned whether this tired series had anything left to offer. It wasn't very enjoyable, I'm afraid.
