This is yet another Hollywood-style Western with a plot full of violent killers. Clint Eastwood portrays a character who’s essentially a homicidal maniac—one who reappears after being seemingly killed by three men and abandoned by an entire community. Immediately, he sets about killing the few individuals who weren't involved in his downfall. Does that make logical sense? Not really, if you expect some kind of reasonable explanation for actions. But believable explanations aren’t typically found in Eastwood’s Westerns, especially not the Italian-made ones. Therefore, what follows is mostly just noise and chaos, signifying absolutely nothing, and attempting to find meaning within it would be pointless. It's simply a film about violent people existing everywhere. If places were truly like this, no town could survive; everyone would either be dead or severely injured. Eastwood clearly enjoyed depicting that kind of world. A century from now, he’ll likely be remembered for many worthwhile Westerns such as Hang 'Em High and Joe Kidd, along with his Rawhide television series and Dirty Harry, because in those, he embodied believable characters. That isn't the case here.
