This science fiction movie is a truly spectacular and unrestrained work. Claire Denis’ direction feels like an impressive achievement, filled with intense dread and a powerful force that completely absorbs you from beginning to end. For me, the film felt more like a thoughtful examination of what drives humanity's inherent impulsiveness. Numerous plot developments and story components seem rooted in the idea that people are inherently unpredictable, and as we develop, our focus will remain on acting according to our own principles. There’s considerable violence shown throughout the movie, which all feels very controlled until a particular moment roughly halfway through—a quiet, restrained scene that triggers complete chaos for all of the characters. It almost serves as an illustration of whether those in positions of power actually help prisoners or simply allow their anger to escalate until it erupts with explosive force. I believe the film’s central ideas are best summarized by a line from within the movie itself: "The sensation, moving backwards, even though we're moving forwards, getting further from what's getting nearer." The way it portrays human evolution as progressing physically but regressing figuratively is not just clever; it's brilliant. However, the film also explores issues related to eroticism and the exploitation of that pleasure; the entire Fuckbox sequence is simply a horrifying experience, leaving me feeling deeply disturbed. I strongly urge you to see this movie if it’s playing in your area. Not many people will have the opportunity to witness it on the big screen (and I certainly didn't), so please help prevent another exceptional work from being overlooked.
