This film, which had the alternate title “Close Your Eyes and Pray” when it appeared in the UK, was filmed during the late summer of 1987. It shares some qualities with “Chopping Mall,” though without the robotic killers. The initial portion—roughly the first sixty minutes—is slow-moving because of a flat setting and drawn-out character interactions; however, the cast, who aren’t well known, do an adequate job, and the music by John Ross is worth noting. Eventually, the last twenty-five minutes pick up some momentum and become engaging, featuring a killer who calls to mind elements from a couple of earlier movies that I won't identify. Bunky Jones makes a mark among the female performers as Bonnie, largely because of her long brunette hair, although Donna Baltron, also with dark hair, deserves recognition for her portrayal of Judy. While it’s better than the unremarkable “Evil Laugh,” it doesn’t have the thought-provoking ideas found in “The Toolbox Murders.” The first hour could have been handled differently to hold the audience's attention (beyond brief nudity). The movie has a runtime of one hour and twenty-seven minutes, and filming took place on San Pedro St. in Los Angeles (at Fine Furniture), with scenes set in a backyard workout area shot twenty-five miles away in La Cañada Flintridge.
