Venturing into new places always presents difficulties. The movie draws its basis from the story of Frank Hopkins and his horse, Hidalgo. They journey across vast expanses of water to the Arabian desert to participate in a competition. This narrative follows their experiences as they navigate an unfamiliar setting and contend with top riders. A miscommunication also sparks an unforeseen clash. The rest of the film details how they manage to escape and return home from so far away. It’s a western unlike others, set during the late 1800s, which was when cowboy culture first emerged. However, it focuses on just one cowboy because of where the story unfolds. It arrived shortly after *The Lord of the Rings*. Viggo Mortensen delivered a strong performance and his action sequences were impressive. The early scenes in America were emotionally affecting, and I also found the ending satisfying. It brought to mind the animated movie *Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron*. While it’s primarily centered on Frank Hopkins, the horse had a significant impact on the story, as indicated by the film's title. It is lengthy, but ultimately rewarding.
