I really wanted to see this film, and I regret watching it late at night by myself (please don’t make that same error!). Typically, scary movies don't linger with me; any impact usually fades while I'm still watching. However, this one has stuck around for days—it just won’t leave my mind. This isn't the kind of movie you can enjoy if you are looking for jump scares, gruesome deaths or something to have on in the background. You really need to focus because otherwise you will be lost when it concludes. There are delicate clues sprinkled throughout that suggest where things are going, but there are still unexpected moments. The performances are quite strong. I’ll admit Toni Collette was a big draw for me and one of the main reasons I decided to watch it. ***Spoilers Start*** Both Toni Collette and Alex Wolff deliver outstanding work in this film. Following Charlie's passing, the expression on Alex's face communicates so much that words aren’t needed to understand his shock. There is no exaggerated acting or crying or screaming—just a sense of disbelief. ***Spoilers End*** The entire family does an excellent job with their parts. Charlie is unsettling throughout. You feel sympathy for each character and understand their frustrations, even when you realize some of their choices are simply misguided. Despite the lack of typical jump scares, the movie creates a constant feeling of unease. There’s a growing sense of strain among the family members due to unspoken issues about their past experiences, current struggles, and the grief they're experiencing—and this culminates in something significant. Witnessing this family completely fall apart is emotionally draining but also has frightening consequences. It’s certainly worth seeing if you appreciate horror films, but it isn't for those seeking immediate scares through killings or jump moments.
