It appears the practice of fabricated reviews, originating in Hollywood decades ago—where either nonexistent individuals or those receiving payment produce overly positive evaluations—continues today. That’s really the only explanation I can come up with for how this movie is perceived. I checked out the user reviews on IMDB to see if I was mistaken or if others shared my opinion that this visually appealing, atmospheric, well-acted two-hour experience was disappointing. Fortunately, I discovered I wasn't alone in feeling that way. Essentially, it’s a situation where aesthetics take precedence over meaningful content. There isn't much of anything to connect with regarding the events unfolding within the family's story. When the plot twists are revealed, they either feel predictable or uninspired. The final resolution is truly awful, particularly after investing two hours to reach that point. The most unsettling moment occurs relatively early and doesn’t involve any supernatural elements. Afterward, the film simply repeats itself, leaving one to suspect the mother might be suffering from mental illness—that she's either fabricating everything unusual or causing it herself. When that turns out not to be the case, the ending we receive is again substandard, resembling a plot pulled directly from an obscure, low-budget horror film intended for on-demand viewing. Comparisons to "The Exorcist" have been made, but don't be misled; this bears no resemblance to that film, or anything comparable. At its core, it could be described as a movie about a family struggling with mental health issues—except it isn’t.
