It didn’t quite live up to expectations, truthfully. *Hereafter* invests a significant portion of its roughly two-hour length in establishing a sense of mystery, but then doesn’t seem to accomplish much with it. When the film finished, I was left feeling that it could have offered something more substantial given its 2010 release date. The individual narratives take an extended period to intertwine, even though each one holds some degree of interest on its own. I appreciated the performances from Matt Damon and Cécile de France, as did the younger actors Frankie and George McLaren. Bryce Dallas Howard is also present, and she and Damon have a pleasing rapport – it isn’t quite like Damon's pairing with Emily Blunt in *The Adjustment Bureau*, which incidentally prompted a production delay for this film – but they work well together onscreen. I also spotted George Costigan (*Line of Duty*) and Mathew Baynton (*You, Me and the Apocalypse*). Considering how long it takes for everything to come together and the lack of a truly rewarding conclusion, I’m left feeling let down by Clint Eastwood's film; which was made in collaboration with *The Crown* creator Peter Morgan, notably.
